Here are our favorite dresses from the Screen Actors Guild awards 2014 (click to enlarge):
From left to right: Lupita Nyong’o, Isla Fisher, Sarah Hyland, and Michelle Dochery.
HERE’S WHY THEY WORK:
Lupita Nyong’o – Gucci dress – This vibrant turquoise color stands out on her skin color and is immaculately fitted. The delicate details by the neckline draw the eye upwards to her winning smile. Her jewelry is kept simple with citrine drop earrings and one statement ring which both accent the gold in the embroidery of her straps (even down to her gold color nail polish!) – without over-doing it.
Isla Fisher – Oscar de la Renta – Wearing a creamy silver full length satin mermaid gown, Bulgari jewelry, and a Ferragamo clutch. She keeps it classy, fun, and what a great color on her! It’s fitted perfectly and the jewelry is absolutely stunning – the dangly earrings and emerald/diamond bracelets are super luxe. Her posture adds tremendous confidence, not to mention the gorgeous berry lip color that offsets her luscious red locks! awesome job.
Sarah Hyland – Pamella Roland gown – This silk strapless gown would have been a miss had it not been for the interesting hemline that gathers up at the front, not to be mistaken with it’s higher-hemline enemy, the “Mullet Dress”. The sleek lines of the top half balances the volume of the bottom half very nicely. She paired it with Lorraine Schwartz jewelry including simple stud earrings and rings, strategically placing a traditional diamond ring on her pinky, such a non-traditional and fun placement! The Jimmy Choo detailed heels make the tea length hemline very feminine. Her makeup and hair were kept simple and feminine with light pink colors and cascading side waves.
Michelle Dochery – J. Mendel – This silk satin tuxedo gown puts some risk into a classic black/white combo with the pockets at the hip that continue on into the flowing bottom half, keeping the eyes guessing. The deep V plunge neckline, red lips and the high slit leg are super spicy and not boring at all. It’s risk is balanced by the simplicity of her makeup, sleek updo, neutral clutch, matching black and white shoes, and simple David Yurman jewelry.
